1. Read pp. 17-22 of Travels with Charley by John Steinbeck to those classes that did not get to hear it on Monday. Students should take notes in their yellow spiral notebooks over the response question which is "Describe the start of Steinbeck's trip."
2. Students need to respond to the question "Describe the start of Steinbeck's trip" on Classroom.Google.com. An assignment page has been sent to their accounts. Students must write approximately 100 words using proper English grammar, punctuation, capitalization, and spelling. Students then need to "Turn In" assignment to be scored/read.
3. Teacher will share rural artwork titled "America Gothic" with class on the Smartboard. Artwork was painted by Grant Wood, a former Iowan, and is one of the most recognizable pieces of artwork in the world. Teacher will also share parodies of "American Gothic" that are on the internet.
4. Students need to make a tab in their yellow folders for Literary Terms vocabulary words. Periodically, words and definitions will be presented and discussed and students will be copying down information that will be used to study with in the future.
Words and definitions presented today are:
a) setting - the time or place that a story takes place
b) parody - a literary work that imitates another literary work
c) genre - a literary type or form
