1. Students will read silently from independent reading books for 20 minutes. Teacher will collect 3rd quarter reading logs from students and record points in grade book.
2. Teacher will present Powerpoint on Analogies - background information on the Smartboard.
3. Teacher will present Powerpoint on Analogy problems: Day 1 and Day 2. Class will complete Day 1 together as a class and students will complete Day 2 independently in their yellow spiral notebooks. Teacher will give correct answers.
4. Unit Vocabulary instruction: Teacher will present the following vocabulary words and definition on the Smartboard for students to copy into their yellow spiral notebooks: summarize, paraphrase, quote, plagiarize. Discuss.
5. Teacher will pass out teacher-made worksheet on summarizing, paraphrasing, and quoting. Teacher will model how to do the above using copied and pasted notes from the internet on "hairless cats." Students will copy onto p. 1 of worksheet. Students will complete page 2 of worksheet independently, summarizing, paraphrasing, and quoting from another paragraph "note."
